Pogba Leaves Monaco After Contract Terminated by Mutual Agreement

Paul Pogba's stint at Monaco has come to an end after just one season, with the club confirming his contract has been terminated by mutual agreement. The World Cup winner had originally signed a deal running until June 2027, but Monaco said the arrangement was being cut short because objectives agreed by both parties had only been "partially achieved."

Pogba's time on the pitch at the Stade Louis II was limited. He made just six appearances for the club last season, five of them from the bench, as persistent fitness issues restricted his involvement following his return to professional football. Speaking after the decision was confirmed, Pogba struck a grateful tone despite the limited game time, saying representing the club and the principality had been an incredible experience and that he would always value the opportunity he was given to wear Monaco's colours, even though things didn't work out in terms of minutes on the pitch.

The move to Monaco last summer had itself been a significant moment in Pogba's career, marking his return to the game following a doping ban originally handed down during his time at Juventus. Pogba consistently denied any intent to break doping rules, and the Court of Arbitration for Sport ultimately reduced his suspension from four years to 18 months, clearing him to resume playing in March 2025.

That next step remains uncertain. Pogba has previously been linked with clubs in Major League Soccer, while interest from Saudi Arabia and France has also been reported. Any move, however, could be delayed by a thigh injury he picked up during Monaco's pre-season training camp in England last week — a fresh setback for a player who has spent much of the past few years fighting to stay fit and available after a career that once made him one of the most sought-after midfielders in the world.
