Arsenal have reached an agreement with Mikel Arteta over a new contract, securing the manager's future after he guided the club to their first Premier League title in 22 years.
The agreement brings an end to months of uncertainty surrounding the Spaniard, whose previous deal was entering its final season. Arsenal chief executive Richard Garlick had indicated last month that the club expected the situation to be resolved soon, with both sides keen to continue working together.
Arteta's new agreement comes after the most successful season of his Arsenal tenure. Since replacing Unai Emery in December 2019, he has overseen the club's return to the Champions League, successive second-place finishes and a number of major domestic achievements before finally delivering the Premier League crown last season.
The title success ended Arsenal's long wait for another league championship and followed two consecutive campaigns in which they finished behind Manchester City.
With that breakthrough now achieved, the club have moved quickly to maintain continuity in the dugout.
Arteta had previously signed a three-year contract extension in September 2024, with that agreement due to expire in 2027. His latest deal extends his commitment beyond the existing arrangement, although the precise length of the new contract has not been publicly disclosed.
The decision also reflects the confidence Arsenal's hierarchy have placed in the manager's work since his appointment.
Under Arteta, Arsenal have won the FA Cup, returned to Europe's premier club competition and developed into regular contenders for major honours. The Premier League title represents the biggest achievement of his tenure so far.
Arsenal's ownership had already identified retaining Arteta as a priority following the championship-winning campaign. The club can now begin the new season with the manager's contractual situation settled as they attempt to build on their success.
For Arteta, the new agreement provides further stability as he enters the next stage of his Arsenal project, with the club preparing to defend its Premier League crown while also competing in the Champions League.
The Spaniard's future at Emirates Stadium is therefore no longer a talking point. After months of negotiations, Arsenal have reached an agreement that keeps Arteta at the centre of their plans for the seasons ahead.
