Ivan Toney has pleaded not guilty to a charge of assault occasioning actual bodily harm following an alleged incident at a nightclub in London's Soho.
The England international appeared before Westminster Magistrates' Court on Thursday, October 1, where he denied the single charge relating to an incident at a nightclub on Wardour Street on December 6, 2025. Toney was formally charged by the Metropolitan Police on July 31 following an investigation.
The 30-year-old forward had been due to appear in court on September 24, but the hearing was delayed by a week. He has consistently indicated that he intends to contest the allegation.
A spokesperson for Toney previously said the striker was shocked by the charge but looked forward to having the opportunity to clear his name in court.
Following Thursday's hearing, Toney opted for a trial by jury and the case was sent to Southwark Crown Court. His next hearing is scheduled for October 29, while he has been granted unconditional bail.
The court proceedings come after a busy summer for Toney, who represented England at the 2026 World Cup.
He made two appearances during the tournament, coming on as a substitute in England's 2-1 semi-final defeat by Argentina before starting the third-place play-off against France. England won that match 6-4.
At club level, Toney currently plays for Saudi Pro League side Al-Ahli, having joined the club from Brentford in 2024.
The striker left Brentford after four years with the Bees, scoring 72 goals in 141 appearances across all competitions and helping the club secure promotion to the Premier League in 2021.
Toney will now continue his career in Saudi Arabia while the legal proceedings against him progress. He denies the allegation and remains entitled to the presumption of innocence unless and until proven guilty.
