Cagliari forward Daniel Maldini has had his driving licence suspended after being found over the legal alcohol limit following a car crash in Milan early on Sunday. The 24-year-old, son of Italy and AC Milan legend Paolo Maldini and grandson of Cesare Maldini, was one of six people to suffer minor injuries when his Porsche Carrera 4 collided with another vehicle in the north of the city at around 5:15 am.
Maldini was taken to hospital for precautionary checks before being released later that day. Police carried out a breath test at the scene, with an initial reading recording a blood alcohol level of 0.91 grams per litre and a second test showing 0.89 g/l, both above Italy's legal limit of 0.5 g/l. He has since also been tested for drug use, though those results are not expected for another three to four days.
The incident came just hours after Maldini had scored the winning goal from the penalty spot in Cagliari's 2-1 Serie A win over his former club Atalanta in Bergamo on Saturday night. His lawyer, Danilo Buongiorno, said Maldini was fine and had not suffered any injury, let alone a serious one.
Maldini made his Italy debut against Israel in a Nations League fixture in 2024, becoming the third generation of his family to represent the national team.
