West Ham have signed Athletic Club left-back Adama Boiro on a season-long loan with an option to make the move permanent, completing the deal after submitting paperwork just ahead of Tuesday's 11pm deadline. The 24-year-old becomes the club's ninth signing of the summer window, joining a group of new arrivals that already included Keiber Lamadrid, Joel Veltman, Manor Solomon, Arne Engels, Joel Piroe, Divine Mukasa, Edvin Austbo and Morato.
Born in Senegal, Boiro moved with his family to Pamplona in Spain as a child and began his career at Osasuna before joining Athletic Club in 2024. Since then he's made 45 appearances for the Basque club across La Liga and European competition, including six outings in last season's Champions League.
The move fills a position West Ham had been chasing for much of deadline day, having sold El Hadji Malick Diouf to Brentford earlier in the window. Director of player recruitment Nils Koppen described Boiro as a strong, athletic and versatile defender who had made excellent progress in Spain, adding that the club were pleased to bring in a player they had tracked closely and one they believe will strengthen the squad's defensive balance.
Speaking after his arrival, Boiro said he was excited and happy to join, calling West Ham a club with real ambition, and expressed hope that his mentality and work rate would help contribute to the team's goals this season.
